Tobey V.L. Shepherd – Secretary

Rockport, MA  01966

-BS in Nursing, Fitchburg State College 1978

-MS in Early Intervention Wheelock College 1985

-Worked as Pediatric Home Care Nurse 1985-2002. Specialty working with young children    who are medically fragile or with chronic medical conditions.

-Volunteered with MASTAC, the Massachusetts Special Technology Access Center. The Center was set up by Apple Computer to get information about technology to people with disabilities. Member Board of Directors. Developed and implemented a computer play program for young children with severe special needs. Set up a toy lending library of toys adapted for children with a wide range of motor impairments. Taught parents and professionals how to adapt toys and build single switches to operate toys and computers and how to integrate them into a guided playtime.

-Owner/Innkeeper Linda Tree Inn 2002-present. My husband, John and I own and operate year-round the Linden Tree Inn in Rockport MA, an 18 room Victorian bed and breakfast. Have hosted/implemented many different types of retreats in the off-season, including scrapbooking and crafts, women’s retreats and small group meetings. Due to the current pandemic we were forced to close the Inn in March, 2020. The required protocols to re-open and operate our business prompted us to decide that the time to retire after 18 years of welcoming guests to our home was approaching. We plan to retire sometime in 2020/2021.

-Formed the Rockport Innkeeper Association in 2002 with several other innkeepers to help with sharing resources, growing the organization to include group marketing that extends our ability to augment marketing dollars with cooperative marketing. Have been the Scribe since 2004 and also serve on the Marketing Committee, Steering Committee and Cookbook Committee.

-Member Board of Directors, MLA (MA Lodging Association) Inns Director, 2005-present.

-I have been coming to Cold Spring Resort since my parents bought their units in the 80’s and became a sole owner in 2015.

-I bring to the Board my experience of running an inn and being involved with several different types of lodging boards. I bring the perspective of being a small hospitality business owner, with 18 years’ experience. With creative marketing we were able to keep the Inn open through the off-season and quiet times hosting a variety of groups. I believe these valuable skills accumulated over the years will serve me well as a Board member.
